Worst Superbowl ever

Is it just me, or are the Steelers the luckiest team in the history of the NFL? Let’s look at this for a second. I’m skipping the regular season convo to keep this post short.

First round of the playoffs they're up against the Bangles. The Bangles were a much better team then Pitt this year. What happens? Second play Palmer goes down, Pitt wins.

Next they play the best team in the league (Indy), but Dungy’s son tragedy occurs a couple weeks prior to the game. I thought this would cause Indy to “win one for the Gipper”, but apparently it caused them to forget how to play football (this is acceptable since football is just a game after all). Steelers win.

Week 3 they should have played New England, but the referees decided that wasn’t going to happen so they played Denver instead. A team that shouldn’t have been there. Steelers win.

Finally, the Superbowl happens. This game was so disappointing. There was 1 bad call for the Seahawks, and about 50 against them. The Seahawks played much better than the Steelers did, but the refs made so many crippling calls against them, there was no way they could reach the endzone. Every time Seattle got close, the refs screwed them. This should have been a close game. It should have been exciting. Instead, it was painful to watch.

Everybody wanted Pittsburg to win, and the refs made sure it happened. I think Bill Simmons said it best when he said “Allow me to become the first of 30 million football fans to make the ‘Can we give the Super Bowl MVP to the officials?’ joke.”

I love watching football. I love betting on games. I love looking up stats. I love my fantasy teams. I just plain love football, but when the refs start deciding the games instead of the players, then I start to get mad. This Superbowl was so frustrating, I felt like I was watching the Pats / Broncos game from 3 weeks ago.

This week: 0-1
Overall 2005 playoff record: 8-3

Sidenote: 9-2 would have been so much sweeter, but I’ll take 8-3. I just need to mention that 2 of my 3 losses were directly the result of horrible officiating. I should be 10-1 right now. Hey, this is my blog and I can cry if I want to.

This game seahawks vs steelers was rigged ive lived in the northwest all my life and i have wached them now weve dominated all season but when we reach the superbowl we just flunk out no way those refs called so many fowls it wasnt even a game the refs controlled it we played way better than the steelers we really diserved this win but i guess the refs really make the game i just wish we could have a real game with refs that WOULD NOT MESS UP THE GAME

I totally agree. The refs killed any chance the Seahawks had. I don't know if it was a conspiracy or just really bad officiating. Either way, it sucked.

Seattle deserved a fair chance to compete for the Lombardi Trophy and the refs denied them that chance.
